LICENSE
ONTARIO SECURITY GUARD LICENSE
The Private Security and Investigative Services Act of Ontario requires all security guards to be licensed.
Everyone looking for a job in security, including security guards, bodyguards, bouncers and loss prevention personnel must apply for a license from the ministry.
On April 15, 2010, the new security guard Training and Testing Regulation took effect.
This Regulation helps strengthen the professional requirements for security guards and private investigators and enhance public safety.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A SECURITY LICENSE
- Successfully complete a ministry-approved 40 hour security training course
- Write the security guard exam through a government recognized testing centre
- Submit an application for an Ontario security guard license to the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services
SECURITY LICENCING GUIDELINES
From the company’s perspective, the interview is a formal meeting between a potential employee and a company representative to determine whether the applicant is suitable for a position.
As of January 25, 2015, the cost to take each basic test is 66.50 plus HST, for a total of $75.15. Each time a candidate attempts the ministry test, they will be required to pay the full test fee. Candidates are only required to pass the test once in their lifetimes. Test hosting and invigilation services are provided by Serco DES Inc.
