Why Security Training Matters

Why Security Training Matters: Our Approach at Condor Security

Table of Contents

Security training isn’t just a formality—it’s the foundation of everything we do. It prepares us for real world situations where quick thinking, calm under pressure and strong communication can make all the difference. At Condor Security we believe training is more than just learning the rules. It’s about building confidence, sharpening instincts and developing leaders.

Here’s how we train—and why it matters so much to us.

The Importance of Proper Training

Security guards are often the first responders in emergencies. That’s a big responsibility. Whether we’re handling a fire alarm, calming a heated dispute or just making sure a building is safe overnight, how we respond matters.

The truth is that basic licensing training the Ontario 40 hour government mandated course is just a starting point. That’s why at Condor we go way beyond . We’ve created a full training system that helps us learn, grow and lead with confidence on the job.

Our Training Philosophy: The Condor Evolution

We’ve built a structured training journey we call the Condor Evolution. It guides every team member from entry level guard to advanced professional. It’s a mix of theory, practice, scenario based learning and personal development. Here’s what that journey looks like:

Why Security Training Matters (Security Guard Training In Ontario) (Security Training Toronto)(Training)

Level 1: Basic Security Training

Our journey starts with Level 1—the Pre-Qualifying Basic Security Training Course. Everyone at Condor goes through it. This isn’t a check the box session. We cover the essentials like:

  • How to communicate clearly and respectfully
  • How to respond in emergencies
  • Patrol procedures and access control
  • Understanding legal authority and use of force concepts

It ends with a written test and hands on skill demonstrations. Only when we meet our standards do we move forward.

First Aid & CPR: Being Ready to Help

Safety isn’t just about security—it’s about health too. That’s why all of us take a certified Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C” course through Toronto EMS Safe City. It prepares us to step up when someone’s hurt whether on duty or off.

Level 2 Intermediate Security Training: Digging Deeper

After about three months on the job we’re eligible for Level 2 training. This is where things get more advanced. We focus on:

  • Physical security techniques and self defence
  • Recognizing and assessing risks* Preventing crime through smart design (CPTED)
  • Managing emergency scenes with clarity and control

We’re not just learning—we’re sharpening our professional edge.

Security work is mostly about people not physical force. That’s why we train in Verbal Judo, a tactical communication method originally developed for law enforcement. It helps us de-escalate situations, keep people calm and protect everyone involved—with words not aggression.

Level 3 is where things get serious. This training is for those of us who’ve proven ourselves and are ready for more responsibility. We cover:

  • Unarmed defensive tactics
  • Tactical handcuffing and safe arrest techniques
  • Ontario’s legal use of force framework
  • High stress scenario training that pushes our limits

It’s tough but it prepares us for the toughest challenges we might face.

Specialized Training: Going Beyond the Standard

We also offer focused courses for guards who want to specialize. These include:

  • ASP Use of Force: We’re the first Canadian company licensed to teach this respected international program. It focuses on safe and legal use of force skills.
  • Tactical Awareness: Here we train to pick up on early warning signs—body language, tone of voice, behaviour shifts—so we can prevent trouble before it starts.
  • FireSafe Training: Led by certified Fire Fighters, and base on NFPA 601 (2025) Standard for Security Services in Fire Loss Prevention the this program teaches us how to handle fire emergencies, stay compliant with fire codes and keep people safe.

These aren’t add-ons. They’re part of how we stay sharp, stay prepared and stay ahead.

A Path to Grow With

At Condor training isn’t a one time thing—it’s a career path. We support team members as they move from Level 1 to Level 3 and into more senior roles. Some of us go on to specialize in areas like mobile patrol, site supervision or risk management. Others pursue certifications like the PSP (Physical Security Professional), an internationally recognized designation.

Wherever we’re headed the foundation is always the same: quality training, real world practice and a mindset of continuous improvement.

Why It All Matters

Training matters because people matter. Our clients trust us to protect what’s important to them—buildings, businesses, communities and lives. That’s a responsibility we take seriously. We’re not just training—we’re sharpening our impact.
